Alexander Wang : American Fashion Designer
Alexander Wang is an American fashion designer born on 26th Dec, 1983 in San Francisco, California. He is the creative director of Balenciaga. At an early age, Wang launched his fashion label that was predominantly a knit wear collection. In 2007, he gained critical acclaim for his women’s ready-to-wear collection that was portrayed on the New York Catwalk. In 2008, he won ‘Vogue Fashion Fund’ along with $20,000 award o expand his business.
In 2009, he released Women’s T and Men’s T a year later. He earned ‘Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year’ award by CFDA. He was also nominated for Swiss Textiles Award. In 2010, he was announced as the winner of Swarovski Designer of the Year Award for Accessories. In 2011, he earned ‘Best Menswear Designer of the Year’ award by GQ US followed by ‘Fashion Star’ award in 2013 by Fashion Group International.
Wang is popularly known for his urban designs. His clothing line is globally stocked in over 700 stores including Bergdorf Goodman, Barney's New York, Browns and Net-a-Porter, Dover Street Market and Neiman Marcus. His first standalone store was opened in SoHo, New York. Wang has introduced a vast range of ready-to-wear collection such as covetable cozy cardigans, shrunken vests, distressed boyfriend jeans and his signature style of, ‘model-off-duty’.
Alexander created a collection for H&M, a Swedish based retailer that included designs for men and women as well as his selected famed accessories.
Wang has meteoric ascent in fashion rankings that has made him one of the greatest fashion sensation of the century.
